A beautiful, original and incredibly rare 1984 'Shark Nose' BMW 628 CSi Coupe finished in Opal Green metallic with Sage Green Velour Sports Seats. The interior really does look lovely in the flesh!

Having virtually one Doctor owner since new and having been in hibernation since 1999, this incredible example has covered 111,947 miles and has got a full and complete BMW service history. Having been recently recommissioned, this lovely sports coupe is now ready to be enjoyed once more.

First registered on 1st September 1984 by Western Counties BMW of Bristol, Dr Dunbar had specified his 628 CSi with the cost optional Opal Green metallic paint, Recaro front sports seats, electric tilt and slide sunroof, rubber boot spoiler, Alpina body stripes and the 7155L stereo radio cassette. With an on the road cost of around £22,000, this really was high end luxury motoring back in the day. Western Counties BMW rear window sticker, front and rear number plates, tax disc holder and pdi/service sticker still remain. Religiously maintained by main BMW agents throughout it's life until which point, Dr Dunbar retired from driving due to ill health. The car was parked in the heated garage of the family home and remained there until his passing in 2014, at which point the ownership transferred to his daughter, Dr Elizabeth Sampson. A letter to confirm this is contained within the history file.

These cars were produced in an era where BMW build quality was remarkably high, however, the quality of the metal was pretty best! They rusted and rotted before your eye's! This particular example still retains all of it's original factory fitted panels and it has never seen a welding gun throughout it's life! It has just been preserved in a lovely and cared for state. In the mid 80s, cars like this were only ever dreamt about by peasants like me! They were something to aspire to and achieve!

The Opal Green paintwork still retains a deep and consistent shine across all panels, the bonnet and front wing were repainted due to vandal damage very early in it's life. The bolt on front wings have clearly never been disturbed and factory welds and sealer across all panels are clear for all to see. BMW badges front and rear are ok, but are showing some signs of age. Head lights, rear lamp lenses and glass are all in good condition and undamaged. The bright work on the weather strips, door handles and bumper inserts is all good...the front bumper blade has two small patches that can be seen on the photos...another bumper blade is provided. The metal electric tilt and slide sunroof is perfect and completely blemish free. All the rubber body side mouldings are in good order. The underside is untouched and all factory applied waxoyl still remains. All in all, a lovely and rot free exterior.

Internally, this really is a throw back in time. It is like sitting on your Gran and Grandads Draylon/Velour settee! The Sage Green sports seats really are in a lovely condition and the photos just don't do them justice! Regardless of how many times we took the photos, we just couldn't get a true representation...the light just bounces off and they look discoloured or even grey! The reality is, they are green. They are in a truly superb condition and the bolsters remain remarkably tight and free from wear. The green deep cut pile carpet is unmarked...and yet again, it looks grey on some of the photos. The sweeping/curved dashboard is as new and completely free from cracking or heat distortion. The on-board computer is fully functional and crystal clear. The head lining is nice and tight and free from sagging. The ashtray and cigarette lighter are unused. The original BMW torch is still in place and the first aid kit is still sealed and untouched in the rear parcel shelf stowage box. This interior really is a very, very, very special place to be!

The standard fitment alloy wheels are in a reasonable condition and some light blistering can be found on a couple of the wheels. Good quality Pirelli tyres are fitted. The alloy spare wheel is still fitted with the original Michelin TRX tyre.

Mechanically, the car is excellent and has benefitted from BMW main dealer servicing throughout it's life and until it was lightly recommissioned for the road in July 2014. At this point the milometer reading was 111,440 miles. The full BMW service details are as follows;

Out on the road, the car performs and drives superbly. There are no knocks, rattles or creaks and the old age BMW build quality and maintenance is very evident. The automatic gearbox changes when it should and is super smooth. Just a lovely driving experience from and just what you would expect from one of BMW's early Grand Tourers.

Complete with a lovely service history file containing a host of BMW invoices and receipts, the Current V5 registration document and mot, full original handbook pack and all original BMW keys.

These E24 6 series are gaining momentum rapidly and good, rot free and original examples are getting ever more difficult to come by.
